1. Learn More About Tibet

Opportunities to learn about Tibet go beyond just a visit to the museum! You’ll find no shortage of Tibetan people to talk to in cafes around McLeodGanj, get the conversation going.
A lot of events such as talks, documentary screenings, and other events take place weekly with sporadic schedules, keep an eye out for fliers posted around town or check the schedule of events in the local newspaper/newsletter.

2.Sightseeing: In and around the city

Mcleodganj is known for its monasteries, museums, temples, waterfalls, lakes, and Tibetan settlements all located close to each other. You wouldn’t require more than half a day to explore all the places around you!

3. Shop at the local markets

Like any other destination, shopping in Mcleodganj has its own charm. Kotwali Bazaar, Jogiwara Road, & Mcleodganj Central Square are well-known shopping areas in the district. While the street shops of Kotwali Bazaar are most popular for Tibetan carpets, rugs, & exotic sculptures, the Jogiwara Road holds a reputation of the go-to place for souvenir shopping. The entire market area is famous for its wooden carvings, Thangka tapestry paintings, and handicrafts.

4. Triund Hike

Not for the faint of heart, a four-hour uphill hike past Bhagsu to the tiny camp of Triund and the snow line is rewarded with incredible views of Himalayan peaks. On a clear day, the scenery from 9,432 feet is all you could ask for.

Spend the night if you want to and walk down the next morning, for an average hiking pace, plan on around five hours up to Triund and at least four hours down. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from McLeod Ganj to Galu Devi Temple and begin the trek from there.

5. Discover serenity at Kora Circuit

Pilgrims and enthusiastic tourists often explore the Kora Circuit, one of the major Mcleodganj tourist attractions. The downslope road around the Tsuglagkhang Complex is a prayer-flag-draped path. At approximately 1.5 km from the begin of the prayer-draped path, one can see the collections of prayer wheels, chortens, and photos of Tibetans who had self-immolated from 2009. The circuit is serene with stunning views.

Once in Mcleodganj, don’t miss the cultural shows on Tibetan culture – folk dance and music – at Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts. This cultural centre showcases occasional Tibetan cultural stage performances including traditional Lhamo – the local folk opera. One such performance continues for 6 hours. Of these shows, the annual Shoton Opera Festival – a 9-day long celebration of Traditional Tibetan Opera – is the most popular one and the most awaited too.

8. Indulge in Yoga and Spa Therapies

There are many yoga learning centres that offer meditation and yoga sessions for travellers. These kinds of activities may interest you if you want to unwind in the most relaxed ways. Om Yoga Centre, Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre, Universal Yoga Centre, and Tushita Meditation Centre are popular Mcleodganj tourist attractions for those who seek peace and relaxation of the soul.

Mcleodganj is also known for the myriad Ayurvedic healing therapies and spa treatments for the complete rejuvenation of body and mind. One such famous place is the Ayurvedic Rejuvenation Centre. Located near Bhagsu Nag, this Ayurveda centre has professional experts and doctors who offer the best-in-class spa treatments.

9. Enjoy Star Gazing

The clear sky over the snow-capped peaks makes stargazing one of the most visually interesting things to do in Mcleodganj. The activity is delightful for travellers of all kinds – solo travellers, couples, & families – and must not be missed.

10. Head out to Dal Lake

One of the major attractions in Mcleodganj is the Dal Lake, a small water body based at an elevation of 1,775 M above the sea level. Situated amidst the woods of deodar, pine and oak, this lake is a treat for an eye. It is an amazing spot for sightseeing and photography.

There is a shrine of Lord Shiva close to the Dal Lake, thus giving it a religious significance. The green coloured lake is also an abode to a variety of fishes. The best time to visit this place is during the months of August and September. Timings: – Open from 7 AM To 8 PM
